The Day I Was Baptized

At the age of 10 I wanted to be baptized. I asked my foster mom if I could do so and she said that I had to ask my biological mom and if she said yes, then I could. So I called my biological mom one afternoon to get her permission. She told me that I could. I asked her if she was a Christian and if she had ever been baptized. She said that she was a Christian, and then told me how she had gotten baptized in a Presbyterian church. I was very confused, so I asked her why she had never told me how to become a Christian. Her reply was that none of us (Nathan, Ronny, and I) were interested in that stuff at the time. I got off the phone with mixed feelings. Glad to be told that I was allowed to get baptized, and upset at my Mom for never telling me about Jesus. I also questioned her even being a Christian. I just could not imagine a Christian not caring enough to tell others about their Salvation. I felt hurt and like she did not care about whether I went to heaven or hell when I died.

The Sunday came for me and some others to be baptized. I remember being very scared, but knowing that since God wanted me to do this, He would give me the confidence that I needed to follow through with it. The baptismal service did not occur until after the regular church service which was a good thing, because I had invited many of my biological family to come to church that day and a good amount of them came. I was glad and prayed throughout the whole service while we were singing, taking the offering, during the announcements, and even during the sermon, that at least one of them would be saved and begin a wonderful relationship with Jesus Christ that I so enjoyed.

After Pastor finished the sermon that God had laid on his heart for that day, he announced that we would begin the baptismal service, so me and all the others that were to be baptized that day went to the ladies room to get changed into non-church clothing and baptismal robes. We then lined up outside of the baptismal to await our turn to be baptized.

When my turn arrived, Pastor asked me if I wanted to say anything and I said no thank you and that I was way too nervous. So he opened the curtain, stated who I was and baptized me in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Ghost. I then went back to the ladies room to change and get my hair dried because it was a very cold day and I was to be visiting with my biological family.
